External Allied Health

Brinbeal Secondary College actively supports students to obtain the supports and therapy they need to succeed at school.

If you'd like to request external services to support your child during school hours, we ask that you please consider the below information.

 Priority is given to:

  • Families unable to access external services outside of school hours due to work commitments.

  • Children who require intensive therapy to support their individual developmental needs.

As a school, we are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where students can access therapy sessions when needed. The Department of Education has clear guidelines and policies on how schools should manage external services, and we are required to abide by these. We appreciate families' understanding of our role in this process.

INFORMATION FOR PARENT AND ALLIED HEALTH SERVICE

If you wish to allow external services to support your child during school hours, we ask that you please contact Angela Roberts, Assistant Principal - Teaching & Learning and Disability Inclusion, Angela.Roberts@education.vic.gov.au.

The following documents must be submitted by the external provider prior to the commencement of onsite therapy sessions:

  • NDIS Funded Therapy Request and Parent Consent Form - this must be completed by BOTH parent and Allied Health Professional

  • Employee Working with Childrens Check

    • public liability insurance

    • professional indemnity insurance

External Service Observations in the Classroom

Classroom observations by external services will only be granted if deemed necessary by all parties. Observations for each student will be limited and cannot impact the teaching or learning of the class. External providers are reminded that any notes taken during the observation can only relate to the individual student being observed. No notes or information about the teacher or other students in the class can be shared with parents or other parties.

Student Support Group Meetings

Allied Health service providers may be invited by parents to attend Student Support Group meetings. This further enhances our collaborative approach to supporting the developmental needs of our students. Student Support Group (SSG) meetings are generally held from Week 5 each term. Families will be notified of specific dates by their child's SSG leader.

Please note that organising external services to provide therapy at our school for your child requires significant time and effort. This includes scheduling, liaising with service providers, and making the necessary arrangements. As a school, we invest these resources because we recognise the importance of supporting your child's development. However, this service is not an entitlement; rather, it is something we facilitate where possible to benefit students. The school has a responsibility to uphold child safety requirements and to manage the high number of requests in a fair and balanced way.

We are committed to working with families to ensure this process is effective and sustainable. Our focus is on collaboration and discussion to determine the best support options for your child. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in making these opportunities available.
